Metal Prints FAQ

How do you print on metal?

Metal prints are printed by infusing dyes directly into specially coated aluminum sheets. This contemporary printing medium gives an immersive and vibrant luminescence to photographs. All prints are ordered direct from Bay Photo Lab, the top metal print producer in the country (in my opinion).

What makes your metal prints so unique?

The waterproof, scratch-resistant surface on a metal print makes them a hygienic and durable medium that will last the test of time- perfect for humid or harsh environments. These prints are durable enough to survive at an off-grid fishing cabin on the Texas coast, all the while adding a museum quality and high end look to any space.

All metal prints come with a brilliant while high gloss surface with sharp square corners. Although durable and weather resistant, metal prints will fade in direct sunlight over time. With a little bit of care, your metal prints will last for years to come!

How do I take care of and clean my metal prints?

Non-ammonia glass cleaner, water, or isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol can be used without harming the print surface. I recommend using a clean, lint-free cloth to wipe off the print. No cleaners containing ammonia, abrasives, or corrosive chemicals should be used.

How do I hang a metal print?

Metal prints sizes 8x10 to 20x24 come with a float mount hanger attached. These lightweight mounting blocks float the print 1/2" off of the wall. Prints larger than 20x30 require a larger 3/4" inset frame with a French Cleat for hanging. Hanging instructions are included for the French Cleat.

What custom sizes and surfaces do you offer in metal?

We can print any size from 2x31/2" to 48x96", including custom sizes. Contact Mac for a custom order! Don't like a high gloss finish? Order a satin, sheer glossy, sheer satin, or texture finish from Mac directly. Reach out on the contact page for a specialized order.

How long does it take to produce my metal print?

It takes one week for my printer in California (Bay Photo) to produce the metal print, and shipping can take anywhere from one to two weeks depending on size and time of year. Contact Mac directly if you have a print that requires a rush order.

What type of lighting should be used to display metal prints?

For displaying metal prints, we recommend halogen, bright white incandescent, full-spectrum LED, or other bulbs with a high CRI (color rendering index). Indirect natural daylight also can work, but it must be indirect in order to prevent fading over time, and will also change the way the print appears throughout the day. Click here for more information.

What will my metal prints be shipped in?

Smaller metal prints will ship in normal cardboard boxes, while larger prints require wooden crates for secure shipping. Crates are required for all metal prints beyond 30x40” (over 30” on the short side and/or 40” on the long side) when being shipped. Metal prints larger than than 40x60” cannot ship with standard shipping methods, and must be delivered by freight.

Shipping and Delivery FAQ

I've ordered a print, when can I expect my order to arrive?

Mac Elliott Media is a small, one person business! I will personally order each print through my printer and ship your print directly to you. Metal prints will ship on standard, ground shipping. Shipping transit times are dependent on the carrier's ability to deliver on time. Average shipping for mid-sized metal prints is two to three weeks. Please allow up to a month to receive your print order. Thank you!

How much does shipping cost?

Good news! Shipping is already calculated in the price listed online. Shipping can range anywhere from $12 for paper prints, $20 for single mid-sized metal prints, and $100 for oversized metal prints. Wooden crates are required for prints sizes 30x40-40x60, and cost $70 in addition to shipping.

How can I expect my prints to be packaged?

I order prints directly from Bay Photo in California, so your prints will arrive on your doorstep in a White Label package without a lab invoice.

Can I track my order once it is placed?

I will receive a tracking number once your order has been shipped. You may as well! More information to come once I iron out the order tracking situation. :)

Can you ship internationally?

At the moment, international orders are not accepted online. Please contact Mac for a custom quote for international delivery.
